Charging

What types of EV chargers does US Supercharge offer, and how long does it take to charge?

US Supercharge provides two main types of EV charging solutions:

  • Level 2 destination charging – Ideal for multifamily properties, offices and hotels. These chargers typically take 3–6 hours to fully charge an electric vehicle, depending on the vehicle and charger, making them perfect for overnight or extended stays.
  • DC fast charging – Designed for public and destination locations where drivers need a quick top-up. These fast chargers typically take about 10–30 minutes for a substantial charge (often to around 80%), depending on the vehicle and charger, so drivers can recharge quickly while on the go.
How do I start charging?

Get prepared.

  1. 1.Make sure your payment method is added in the app.
  2. 2.Plug in your EV and start the charger without too much delay.

At the charger – scan the QR code (fastest):

  1. 1.Touch the charger screen to wake it and open the home screen.
  2. 2.Scan the QR code on the screen with the app's QR scanner or your phone camera.
  3. 3.Confirm the charger number, plug in and tap Start Charging.

Or from the in-app map:

  1. 1.Tap the US Supercharge station icon (the red, green and blue mark) on the map.
  2. 2.Swipe up to open the charging location.
  3. 3.Select the charger you are plugged into and confirm its number.
  4. 4.Tap Start Charging.
Can I start charging from inside my EV or remotely from the app?

Yes! Start and stop charging from inside your EV, or anywhere really.

  1. 1.Download the US Supercharge app.
  2. 2.Make sure your payment method is added.

To start a charging session remotely in the app:

  2. 2.Tap the map icon on the bottom left of the task bar.
  3. 3.Tap the US Supercharge station icon (the red, green and blue mark) on the map.

  6. 6.Tap Start Charging to start your charging session.

Remember to plug in your EV without causing too much delay before or after you start your charge in the app.

How do I unlock my EV from the charger?

The charger plug does not lock to the vehicle. The vehicle locks to the charging plug.

On a Tesla, open the app on your phone, hit the lightning bolt and then click unlock charge port. Or go on the Tesla screen in the vehicle and hit the unlock charge port button in the car.

Other EVs can be unlocked in your vehicle's app or on your vehicle screen. Check your manufacturer's user manual. Also try making sure the vehicle is unlocked.

On DC fast chargers, wait for the connector to unlock after you end the session before unplugging.

Payments & Receipts

How do I add a payment?

Log into the US Supercharge app, then either:

  • Click on the top left menu bars and then click on the + sign next to payment to add your debit or credit card.
  • Or tap the location icon and select the plug ID you are going to use. There will be a drop-down arrow toward the bottom right of the screen. Tap the arrow to add payment methods.

You can add your credit or debit card and charging will be charged directly to your card. A standard $30 pre-authorization hold applies when you start a session. Or you can opt to buy a top-up balance and hold a $50, $100 or $250 balance in the app to use at your convenience. This minimizes the number of card transactions for regular users.

Do I get a receipt after I charge?

Yes, when you end your charging session a receipt will be emailed to the email you entered when you signed up for the app. Your email with us is located in your profile.

Can you break down the taxes I am paying?

In Florida, EV charging is subject to both a sales tax and a gross receipts tax. Each city can also levy its own municipal taxes, so each ZIP code might have a unique tax rate. The Florida breakdown is:

  • Sales tax base rate: 7%
  • Gross receipts tax rate: 2.638%

Rates vary by location, and the taxes on each session are itemized on your receipt.

Tip for Tesla drivers: to precondition your battery for faster charging, select a Tesla Supercharger near the station in your vehicle's navigation before you drive there.

I'm having trouble adding my phone number. What's wrong?

Touch the flag to the left of the phone number field to open the country drop-down list and reset the country code. Select the USA flag from the list. A +1 will be added to the beginning of the phone number field and you will be able to add your phone number to your user account.
